Tiger Leaping Gorge, Yunnan Province, China
Yunnan Province, in the Western region of China, is perhaps one of the most amazing places I have had the opportunity of visiting. It is diverse in its' landscapes from mountainous landscapes to cityscapes, beaches and forests. It is home to some of China's oldest towns, highest mountains and deepest canyons. Fortunately, myself and a friend visited the Tiger Leaping Gorge, some two hours away from the ancient city of Lijiang. The Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest canyons in the world and one of the most majestic landscapes i have seen.
The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain lies on one side of the Tiger Leaping Gorge. It stands at over 5596m above sea level.
The first stop for most hikers on route is the Naxi Family Guest House. Located approximately 2 and a half hours from the beginning of the trail, the guest house is a welcome stop for some food, refreshments and a place to sleep.

Prior to the infamous 28 switchbacks, locals often sit at the bottom of the trail. The offer hikers the easy option of making their way up the switchbacks on horseback.
On route you will pass a small waterfall, which runs across the upper trail path. It's not dangerous, but the sheer drop on the cliff side makes for a few daunting steps.
Chomping on small patches of vegetation, the goats cheer hikers on along the trail.
During the hike, you pass through several small villages. The locals, unfazed by travellers, carry on with their daily lives.

The view from the deck of the Halfway House is breathtaking. The sheer towering cliffs, of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, stand on the opposite side .of the
